Dr. Jerry Cowley was first elected to Dail Eireann in 2002. Since then he has worked tirelessly for the people of Mayo . He has represented them honestly, diligently and without fear or favour.
Dr. Cowley has achieved much for all areas of Co Mayo ranging from essential medical facilities at our local hospitals, including Mayo General Hospital, to accomplishments as diverse as VAT exemption on hotel conferences, Hope House funding for medical card holders in certain situations, improvements to group water schemes, and sporting facility improvements. He has stood with communities from Killala to Geesala, and from Turlough to Carracastle, and from
Ballina to Erris, whether they be troubled with the unwanted imposition of sewerage plants beside housing estates, or waste disposal or incineration facilities, or the operation of illegal quarries, or the destruction of valuable green areas, he has not let them down.
He has been serving the people through his constituency office in Ballina, the only TD to do so for the past five years.
He also has a constituency office in Castlebar. |

According to the Mayo News Deputy Cowley is the ‘top talker’ of Mayo TD’s in the Dail, once again proving his hard work and dedication for you the people of Mayo. “Over the four and a half years of this Dail , the Independent Mulranny- based deputy has talked for three hours and eleven minutes more than Deputy Ring. While Dr. Cowley spoke for over 26 hours, Deputy Ring addressed the chamber for just over 23. Due to party leader privilege Deputy Enda Kenny challenged the government for twice the time as Deputy Ring.
However, the county’s two TDs from the Fianna Fail stable , east Mayo man, Deputy John Carty, and ex-Soldiers of destiny stalwart, Ms. Beverley Flynn, both trailed dramatically behind their constituency colleagues. While Ms. Flynn addressed her colleagues for a total of five hours, Deputy Carty only
spent one hour and forty minutes engaging verbally”

“Everyone agrees on the basis of the latest national opinion polls that neither the present government parties or the proposed alternative will be capable of forming the next government without the support of a number of Independent TDs.
